Senior Families

Greetings,                                                                     07/23/2010

We would like to invite you to attend a gathering of the Senior Families Support Group, which is being sponsored by the Division of Developmental Disabilities and The Arc of Spokane, on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 11:30 until 1 PM at the Arc of Spokane/IERR Community Building at 116 W. Indiana.

Senior Families is for parents and family members of people with developmental disabilities from ages of 21 to end of life.  We will share time and speakers with The Senior Families to maximize the amount of information we can provide for our members.

The Senior Families Support group, currently funded by a grant from the Division of Developmental Disabilities through the Arc of Spokane, has met for about 9 years.  This group was formed to assist families who have sons and daughters with developmental disabilities over the age of 30 years old (although all parents and family members of whatever age are welcome). The coordinator of this group is Deanna Noland who has two sons with developmental disabilities

Over the years, The Senior Families have brought in speakers on a variety of topics. The topics and speakers are identified by the needs of those who attend. Some topics we have covered are:

· Services, supports, & resources available to people with developmental disabilities who are no longer receiving services through their school

· the Grief process and people with developmental disabilities

· Future financial planning - Wills & Trusts

· Guardianship & power of attorney

· Legislative activity & advocacy

· Senior Services

· Probate & estate planning

· Social Security including SSI & SSDI

· Adult protective services

Through The Senior Families, we have helped inform families and encourage them to plan for the future. We feel that this group has been and continues to be very helpful to those who attend.

Lunch is provided so please come and join us.  Please accept this invitation and call Deanna at the Arc at 328-6326 if you plan to attend.
