Diana Wilhite received her B.A. in History from the University of Maryland and has completed postgraduate studies in political science from Sangamon State University.  For over 23 years, she and her husband have operated their business, Safeguard Business Systems, providing business and financial forms as well as promotional products for the small-business community.  In November 2002, she was elected as the City of Spokane Valley’s first Deputy Mayor.  On November 16, 2004, Wilhite was selected by her fellow Councilmembers to serve as Mayor from November 26, 2004 through December 31, 2005.  In November 2005, she was re-elected to a four year term and was again selected to serve as Mayor for 2006 through 2007.

Steve Taylor earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration with honors from Eastern Washington University in 2007, where he also obtained a B.A. in finance and economics.  In addition, he holds a an Associate of Arts Degree from SFCC.  Taylor served as a field representative for Congressman George Nethercutt, and is currently the Government Affairs Director for Spokane Home Builders Association, an organization representing the home building industry.  He was a  member of the original City Council, and in November 2005, was re-elected to a two-year term.  Taylor was selected by fellow Councilmembers to serve as Deputy Mayor for 2006 through 2007.

Michael DeVleming received his A.A.S. in Civil Engineering in 1988, and has worked for Vera Water and Power since 1989 as the Customer Service Director.  He has been married to his wife Pennie since 1990.  They have two children:  Logan and Rachel. Since 1994, DeVleming has owned and operated the Dev-Co Company, a company which performs specialized residential and commercial construction inspections. In November, 2002 DeVleming was elected as the City of Spokane Valley’s first Mayor. His term as Mayor ended November 26, 2004. In November, 2005 DeVleming  was re-elected to a two-year term on the City Council.

Since 1998, Gary Schimmels has owned and operated Affordable Lock Express.  Schimmels attended EWU prior to serving two years in the Army, and was a construction industry employee/owner/operator from 1964 to 1994.  He was a member of the original City Council and in November 2005, was re-elected to a four-year term.

 

Richard Munson

In 1966, Richard Munson received his B.A. in Political Science from San Jose State, and in 1974 received an MS in Business Management from the University of Arkansas.  He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1993, and retired with the rank of LtColonel.  Munson retired in 2004 as a stockbroker after 27 years of service. On November 16, 2004, he was selected to serve as Deputy Mayor, with a term running November 26, 2004 through December 31, 2005.  He was a member of the original City Council and in November 2005, was re-elected to a four year term.  Munson also serves as the 2007/2008 President of the Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors. 

Bill Gothmann

Bill Gothmann is a Professor Emeritus at Eastern Washington University who previously taught courses in electronics, computer aided design, digital, microprocessors, and aviation.  He holds a Master of Business Administration from Eastern Washington University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Whitworth College, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Gonzaga University. Gothmann was formerly a member of the Spokane Valley Planning Commission.  When original Councilmember Mike Flanigan chose not to run in the November 2005 election, Bill Gothmann ran and was elected to a two-year term beginning January 1, 2006.

Dick Denenny owns and operates Richard H. Denenny & Company, an employee benefits insurance and consulting firm.  Denenny attended the University of San Francisco from 1966 to 1968, and the University of California-Berkley from 1968 to 1970.  He is past chair of the Better Business Bureau and Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce. Denenny was a member of the original City Council and in November 2005, was re-elected to a four-year term.
